Core to Canopy was founded on a simple belief: healing happens in connection. While individual counselling is powerful, it works best when it's part of a broader ecosystem of community support, cultural safety, and accessible care.
I’m Rand Zaza, a Melbourne-based counsellor, mother, and active community member and leader. My work is grounded in a deep commitment to women’s wellbeing, culturally safe support, and strengthening the communities we share.
My approach is shaped by both professional training and lived experience; as a woman, a mother, and someone who has navigated her own challenges and transitions. Alongside studying counselling, I have volunteered and contributed to community initiatives that support connection, belonging, and wellbeing. These experiences have reinforced my belief that people deserve support that feels respectful, accessible, and aligned with their values, culture, and lived realities.
I established Core to Canopy after seeing too many women struggle to access mental health support that felt culturally safe, affordable, and genuinely understanding. My particular interest is in supporting women and children through life’s challenges, transitions, and opportunities for growth, drawing on both my professional knowledge and the insights that come from walking similar paths myself.
At Core to Canopy, I offer a warm and compassionate space where you can feel heard, respected and supported as you explore your experiences and take steps towards wellbeing.
As a social enterprise, Core to Canopy is built to serve both individuals and communities.
Income from counselling sessions sustains the practice and enables us to offer subsidised support, community workshops, and partnerships that expand access to mental health care for people who need it most.
Core to Canopy provides accessible, culturally safe counselling that honours whole-person wellbeing and strengthens community connection. We nurture growth from individual roots to collective flourishing, offering affordable individual sessions alongside community programs that reduce stigma, build resilience, and advance mental health equity.
Cultural safety
We create spaces where people feel seen, respected, and understood—without having to explain or justify their experiences, identities, or worldviews.
Trauma-informed practice
We recognise the widespread impact of trauma and respond by promoting safety, choice, collaboration, and empowerment in all our work.
Community connection
Healing doesn't happen in isolation. We work to strengthen the ties between individuals and their communities, because belonging matters for mental health.
Equity and access
Everyone deserves access to quality mental health support. We actively work to reduce barriers; financial, cultural, and systemic, that prevent people from getting the care they need.
Work with us
Whether you're looking for individual counselling, want to bring mental health education to your community, or are interested in partnering with us, we'd love to hear from you.
